Every big city has a big Marriott hotel. Or let’s say a large chain hotel as a central point of contact. The point of contact. You can certainly call several hotels in San Francisco – but for me it is the Marriott Marquis two blocks from Union Square. But there is something else special: 28 years ago I was in SF with my father for the first time and we just couldn’t afford a particularly comfortable overnight stay. When I saw the glamorous Marriott at the time, I swore to myself: I will spend the night here. And now the time had come. At that time it literally shone because it was glazed. It still is, but time did not leave us all without a trace. That’s why the Marriott Marquis is currently being renovated. The lobby has been relocated and a makeshift solution. The journey by car is through downtown SF, but it works. Parking, on the other hand, is only available as valet parking for US $ 80 a night, it costs around US $ 30 in the parking garage around the corner. Wifi works well.
What can you say ? The Marriott is in the middle of the city, close to Union Square and therefore also well located for shopping, dining or to sit in a cable car and drive to the bay. Or to get everything done, because that works in San Francisco, certainly one of the most European cities in America. The airport can be reached in 20 minutes without traffic jams.
I got a corner suite that was cheap for this location. First we got this on one of the lower renovated floors with atrium view in the lobby. This suite had plenty of space, an anteroom, a living room with a sitting area and a bedroom. Lots of space for in the middle of the city, very good. There is no longer a carpet in the renovated area, which is more uncomfortable but more hygienic. The bed is very comfortable, as known from Marriott. We bought cheese and wine from Ghirardellis for an evening and then cheated it in our living room on my wife’s favorite show from Youtube, so I became her hero. That’s how easy it can be. The advantage of the suite further up was the window outside, but it was very noisy due to the ventilation. There’s always something.
The service is so big and anonymous rather inappropriate – friendly and attentive. Yes, all good experiences. Good treatment at check-in despite the hustle and bustle, equally with check-out and in between. The cracker was as follows: Our first room had no bath, woman was unhappy. The next day we received a standard email from the hotel asking what we were doing. My wife complained about the tub issue and two minutes later the phone rang when we were ready to move, that was unbeatable service.
From the gastronomy I can only judge the breakfast, which was quite good but not cheap. The buffet was nice, eggs were fried on request and everything was there. But nothing was special either. I always find the division into Continental and Full Breakfast strange – you always make a miser about the small selection and then have hunger for exactly what is on the other side.
Inexpensive and in the middle of the city, simply good

Rooftop bar with an unbeatable view; very clean rooms good location. A simpler breakfast option is missing, only a more expensive restaurant that invites to do so is available. Otherwise a very recommendable hotel
